The Initiative launched its program on April 25-27, 2012 and was hosted by USC Marshall’s School of Business at the University of Southern California [USC].  The program trained 25 Latina leaders in the art and skill of negotiating for effective leadership and success. The curriculum of the Latina Negotiation Initiative is designed to address negotiation in the context of leadership - transitioning to a position of leadership and authority requires Latinas to effectively negotiate the conditions for success and the Latina Negotiation Initiative is the only program of its kind to focus on helping to prepare Latina leaders to succeed.<br />

Four Hispanic nonprofit organizations participated in helping launch the LATINA NEGOTIATION INITIATIVE: National Society of Hispanic MBA&aposs-OC, Hispanas Organized for Political Equality, Women of the Association of Professional Latinos in Finance and Accounting-OC and the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers-LA.<br />

A study previously conducted by the Women’s Institute of Negotiation found that out of 250 professional Latinas surveyed, 97% said their greatest fear is not knowing “How to Ask” for what they want, 92% feared that when they do negotiate, that they may be asking for too much and, almost 90% feared they might be perceived as  “too aggressive”.  Dr. Davidds, with an extensive training and coaching background, believes that providing focused training in teaching Latinas to have the confidence to ask without fear of being perceived as “too aggressive,” is critical to the development of successful Latina leaders of the future.<br />

Dr. Davidds states, “Latinas seeking to establish themselves in executive or leadership roles must negotiate their way through a number of obstacles and challenges that their male colleagues often bypass.  Today&aposs Latina leaders must be equipped with more than just a traditional leadership skill set; they must be able to negotiate in complex, multi-party situations where relationships are of the utmost importance and substance cannot be sacrificed. Mr Micheli is keen to point out the potential returns that can come about as a result of opting for timber investments, which will be underpinned by real growing demand for timber products in emerging economies such as China and India.<br />

He said that wise investors are “waking up” to the environmental “megatrends” in the market. These include the realisation that growing forests can provide communities with income as they provide potential for carbon trading arrangements. As a result of these arrangements, developing countries can make money from developed nations through carbon trading. This is possible because trees absorb huge amounts of carbon dioxide from the air and therefore provide one of the most cost-effective means of reducing carbon emissions.<br />
<br />
Mr Micheli added that investors are regularly seeing their returns from timber investment exceeding returns on stocks and shares investments. He points out that between 1990 and 2011 the NCREIF Timberland index returned 10.7 per cent each year. He claims that this shows that timber has a “key role” to play in any portfolio that is diversified against risk.<br />
<br />
He claims that the demand for timber is coming from the nations that are desperate to get their hands on raw materials to continue their housing and infrastructure developments. At the same time, supply is not keeping up with the pace, which will drive prices up.<br />
<br />
“Along with Mr Micheli, we are confident that timber prices will rise along with demand in the coming few years,” stated Peter Collins, the analysis partner at FRA, a research and analysis consultancy specialising in forestry investment.<br />
<br />

These common mistakes, along with other findings, were revealed in interviews that took place last month.<br />
<br />
These admissions consultants assist graduate school candidates with the application process, but nearly all formerly served on admissions committees at top-ranked American universities.<br />
<br />
The five most common mistakes mentioned by the admissions consultants were:<br />
- Brushing over a lack of extra-curricular involvement<br />
- Using the same application for multiple schools<br />
- Passing off a positive trait when asked for a weakness<br />
- Coming across as boastful<br />
- Lack of self-awareness, including post-degree goals, reason for wanting to purse an advanced degree, personal values, etc.<br />
<br />
Those interviewed agreed that downplaying a lack of extracurricular activities is an obvious omission to admissions committees. Traditional graduate school applicants have been focused on career development and may have not spent enough time developing their community involvement, the consultants said. They suggest explaining a lack of volunteer history or even highlighting any activity enjoyed outside of work can fill in that gap and make for a more well rounded application.<br />
<br />
It’s assumed that most applicants will apply to more than one school. But, many consultants said they have noticed an application that was clearly copied and pasted. Neglecting to address the unique requirements of each program is a missed opportunity and an easy way for admissions directors to pass up your application, many said.<br />
<br />
Another common theme that emerged was that many applicants tend to incorrectly answer the “What is your greatest weakness?” question.  Many consultants said that a real answer needs to be given, not a strength worded in a negative way.<br />
<br />
A related mistake applicants often make is they come across as boastful. While there is nothing wrong with being proud of your accomplishments and conveying what you bring to the table, arrogance is unattractive. Consultants instead advise applicants to let their letters of recommendation speak on their behalf – let someone else gush about you. It’ll be more authentic.<br />
<br />
Additionally, admissions committees want to get to know applicants and gain an insight into their goals, motivations, values and other personal attributes – what makes them tick and how they might fit into the program. According to the interviews, many prospective students lack the self-awareness. Applicants should put thought equity into those things and make sure they come across in the application.<br />
<br />
Among their tips for success: Be yourself. Every one of the Veritas Prep admissions consultants agreed that there is one major way to get a graduate school application noticed: originality. A far cry from decades ago when a high test score and fancy title would get you in the door, today’s market is incredibly competitive. And more potential students not only have the common attributes for grad school success, but also other skills that make them desirable to the top schools in the nation. According to the experts, admissions committees are ready to see something different – and that could be a candidate’s ticket to their first choice school.<br />

- Spend time on introspection and actually incorporate that materials into your overall narrative and essays<br />
- Make the resume a snapshot of your candidacy<br />
- Have someone who will level with you review your essays<br />

REX GLAMMER, the drummer, was born in Annecy, France, and is the son of a hippie couple who lived in an agricultural community in the Alps. Among his favorite music artists are The Kinks, The Who, Leonard Cohen, and Patti Smith. He also loves Banksy’s graffiti and always tries to explore the cities he visits, photographing graffiti for his collection.<br />

SHE GLAMMER, the bassist, is an Argentinean girl from Buenos Aires. She might as well be considered a world citizen since she spent her childhood travelling with her parents who are diplomats. Fascinated by drawings, tattoos and fashion, SHE listens to Blondie, Madonna (of course!), Velvet Underground, Sex Pistols, and David Bowie. When she was 17, she packed her bags put her contrabass in her backpack and travelled the world playing in different bands.<br />
<br />
The trio met and found that they were passionate for music and had undeniable talent when it comes to music and art. SYD enrolled in Edinburg Art School after spending his childhood being homeschooled. REX was sent to the art school when his parents noticed his incredible talent. And SHE... well, she arrived in Edinburg carrying her backpack and her double bass after roaming about Europe. To make a living during her travels, She started working in that pub where SYD and REX frequented, and where indie bands played every night. It took just one encounter to unite the three to form a band.<br />

The length of the new BG45x15SI was reduced from 120mm to 88mm (4.7 to 3.5 in.) and the length of the more powerful BG45x30SI was reduced from 135mm to 103mm (5.3 to 4.0 in.)<br />
<br />
Under the banner of "everything on board" these high power density, under 100 watt, compact intelligent servo motors offer true 4-quadrant digital speed control with programmable features.<br />
<br />
The new BG45SI motors, with a height and width dimension of 44 mm (1.73 in.) feature newly designed digital control and power electronics that offer a significant overall package size reduction of over 25% compared to its predecessors. In addition, the motor connector design has been updated for further space saving and convenience in mounting and connection.<br />
<br />
With a 12 or 24 volt power source, at a nominal speed of 3000 rpm, the longer of the two units, the BG45x30SI is continuous duty rated for 80 watts (1/10 hp) power output. Based on the improved design, however, the motors can achieve peak powers of four times the continuous duty rating and, therefore, a starting torque of up to 100 N-cm (142 oz-in) is possible.<br />
<br />
The motor target speed can be set using an analog +/-10VDC input signal. Alternatively, different set speeds can be selected via digital inputs using simple start-up software.<br />
<br />
The drive has a total of 4 digital inputs. Of these, two are for selecting the four operating conditions: rotation clockwise/counter-clockwise, stop with free running, and stop with holding torque. The other two digital inputs are designed for the selection of the fixed motor speed with acceleration and deceleration ramps.<br />
<br />
In addition, there are 3 digital outputs with pulse output functions (12 pulses per revolution), the direction of rotation - assigned and fault output signal.<br />
<br />
Other than long-life ball bearings, the motors contain no other wear-prone mechanical components and are, therefore, ideally suited for continuous duty applications.<br />
<br />
