The Atlanta Broadcast Institute (ABI) History Maker

Andrea Lebron: Another ABI History Maker

Norcross, GA -- (SBWIRE) -- 09/24/2007 -- Instructors at The Atlanta Broadcast Institute (ABI) are not only teaching broadcasting and production they are producing history makers. Andrea Lebron graduated from ABI in November 2006 and immediately landed an internship with Brandon Leak at 790 The Zone, which is a sports talk station in Atlanta, GA.

Could it be that some people are destined to be first? After all, Andrea’s name does begin with the first letter of the alphabet [A]. Prior to enrolling at ABI, Andrea was a club D.J. in Los Angeles, CA, Las Vegas, NV and Paris, France. Another first for Andrea is, she was recently promoted as co-producer for 790 The Zone which makes her a history maker for ABI and also for 790 The Zone. Andrea became the first African-American woman to report the play-by-play action from the sideline and she also manages cutting highlights for the Atlanta Hawks away games. If that’s not enough, Andrea works with the Georgia Force, which is an arena football league.

Andrea’s commitment to succeed, her dedication to preparation, her training and support from ABI instructors, prepared Andrea to transition from an ABI graduate, to a broadcast professional interviewing major coaches and sports figures.

Andrea stated, “It’s important to always be prepared, always do your research, always bring the facts and new information that others can use, and, always believe in yourself.”

A Swing and A Hit For ABI

Casey Bass: ABI and World Series Good Luck Charm

Norcross, GA -- (SBWIRE) -- 09/24/2007 -- The Atlanta Broadcast Institute (ABI) has the magic touch when it comes to preparing students for careers in broadcasting and production. Casey Bass, is an ABI instructor and ABI graduate who seems to spread good luck to everyone he encounters. While attending ABI, Casey’s instructor and mentor, Amy Walker, knew Casey was prepared to leave the proverbial broadcasting and production nest, and with a little nudge from Amy, Casey landed on his feet and worked with the Braves Radio Network.

Casey’s extensive on-air and production experiences also led him to host Clubhouse Gas, which is an Internet web-cast program that highlights national coverage of youth sporting events. Casey’s keen-eye for sports afforded him the opportunity to follow the Warner Robins American Little League baseball team all the way to the state championship for the Little League World Series. Casey has covered high-school play-by-play reports, he’s also a little league coach, and when Casey was a child, he too played for the Warner Robins, American Little League baseball team and Casey has been hitting home runs ever since with his career in broadcasting and production.

You Go Girl and You Go ABI

The Atlanta Broadcast Institute is called upon to complete a video documentary for The Vision of Excellence summer camp program assisting overweight girls to understand and make good decisions about their long term health and fitness.

Suwannee, GA -- (SBWIRE) -- 07/27/2007 -- The Atlanta Broadcast Institute (ABI) was requested to provide exclusive media coverage for the Vision of Excellence, 10-week Summer 2007 program at the Suwannee Sports Academy, in Suwannee, GA. Akilah Townsend, Founder of the Vision of Excellence program, and Co-Owner of The Atlanta Vision, a professional basketball team in the American Basketball Association, created the Vision of Excellence program to provide an active sports environment for overweight girls, ages 8 through 11. The program has different exercises that emphasize dance, movement, and conditioning. The girls also learn the benefits of exercise, health and nutrition and its impact on girls during different phases of their growth stages.

The Vision of Excellence received a grant from GoGirlGo, Atlanta, and they also received support for two consecutive years from: the Atlanta Women’s Foundation, the Gwinnett Medical Center, the Women’s Sports Foundation, The Atlanta Broadcast Institute (ABI), and Kaiser Permanente. The Atlanta Broadcast Institute began their relationship with The Atlanta Vision in 2006, when The Atlanta Vision approached Thea Marcacci, Owner & CEO of ABI, to provide play-by-play coverage as well as video coverage of all home games. Almost immediately, Thea Marcacci worked to make this partnership a reality. Thea Marcacci recruited graduates Jeffery Cadavero and Will Sparks for play-by-play sports commentary, while Amy Walker, Reginald Stevenson, Julie Stefanowicz and extra ABI interns used their talents to capture video footage of the game.

The partnership with The Atlanta Broadcast Institute grew when Akilah Townsend came to ABI in the summer of 2007 to request video documentation of their work with the Vision for Excellence 2007 summer camp programs. The programs kicked off with girls doing more than just exercise; they participated in fun dance movements that focused on a person’s core strengths. ABI graduates, Debra Jones and Julie Stefanowicz, worked closely with Akilah Townsend to provide excellent videography, lighting, interviewing, and editing of the camp’s different events. Additionally, the agility, stamina, and strength Debra and Julie demonstrated, along with their “get the job done” professionalism, sent a powerful message to the Vision of Excellence, GoGirlGo summer camp participants by showing them the benefits of exercising and conditioning. The Summer camp program helped the girls involved to understand how learning new skills, honoring their commitment to health, nutrition, and leadership, empowering them to make good decisions in the future.

The Atlanta Broadcast is requested by the Holyfield Foundation to provide DJ services, Video coverage, sound system for live performers, and music coordinated to fireworks display.

Fairburn, GA -- (SBWIRE) -- 07/26/2007 -- Atlanta Broadcast Institute (ABI) located in Norcross, GA was chosen by the executive team of the Evander Holyfield Foundation to provide media coverage of their annual Evander Holyfield Foundation’s July 4th Celebration at Mr. Holyfield’s palatial estate. The event is one-way Mr. Holyfield gives back and funds programs helping disadvantaged youths to become productive citizens. A week before the event, the foundation contacted Thea Marcacci, President of ABI and within four days, Thea and her team donated their time, their equipment, and their professional talents to implement the logistics for the celebration. The ABI team moved into action with the precision of a major tour production. The team came prepared with solutions, alternatives, and even answers for other vendors. As fate would have it, Thea Marcacci and Evander Holyfield are in the same ring when it comes to benevolence and supporting a worthy cause. ABI helped to turn this great cause into a memorable event with great media coverage.

ABI top gun graduates Carlos Cruz, Julie Stefanowicz and Debra Jones made the requirements easy. They captured excellent DV camera footage and interviews of Mr. Holyfield and attendees. Spencer Wilkerson (enrolled at ABI) did an exclusive interview with World Champion Evander Holyfield, while Spencer’s wife Tangela Wilkerson (enrolled at ABI) worked at the production and sound booth with Dan Marcacci, President of Video Quest Productions. Dan’s team provided the DJ booth, sound system for the live entertainment, and music for the event’s finale, which included an extravagant fireworks display.

The Evander Holyfield July 4th Celebration is just another example of how ABI students are well prepared to meet different challenges and media requests. ABI students are on the move.
