“Again, this is something you should ask about, depending on the vehicle,” Mr. Gordon said. “Some cars you want OEM. Porsche comes to mind. OEM parts keep the resale value higher than non-OEM parts.”

5) Ask about a warranty. Expect warranties to vary based on what’s being done. While a fender may be guaranteed for life, the same can’t always be said of a headlight. “Replacing headlights is part of a vehicle’s routine maintenance,” Mr. Gordon said.
