UNITS Portable Storage Unveils Next Generation Delivery System

Groundbreaking “ROBO-UNIT” Offers New Approach to Portable Storage with Extreme Mobility and Flexibility

Holly Springs, NC -- (SBWIRE) -- 08/12/2010 -- In an effort to give consumers the most convenient and affordable portable storage delivery system available, UNITS Portable Storage has unveiled the “ROBO-UNIT.” This new and revolutionary delivery system offers extreme mobility and flexibility for UNITS customers while guaranteeing unmatched convenience in container placement.

The “ROBO-UNIT” robot delivery system can lift up to 7,000 lbs, move up to 10,000 lbs and can place a storage container anywhere a full size vehicle can fit. Because of its flexibility and small size, the “ROBO-UNIT” can place containers in smaller areas such as city streets and cul-de-sacs in suburbs. Prior to the creation of the “ROBO-UNIT,” only consumers with a large enough space for drop off and pick up could rent a portable storage container.

“The ’ROBO- UNIT’ is completely changing the portable storage industry and will allow more consumers to use portable storage for moving and storage,” said UNITS Portable Storage COO, John Steeves. “Customers want more flexibility when it comes to where containers can be placed, and we have been searching for an alternative solution to transport and maneuver items once the UNITS container is delivered on site. This new delivery system provides that.”

Besides its flexibility and smaller size, the “ROBO-UNIT” offers several other improvements to traditional delivery systems that set it apart from the rest of the industry, including:

• A leveling system to stabilize the container while transporting so items inside won’t shift and break.
• Because the “ROBO-UNIT” carries the container, the truck stays in the street, meaning less property damage to driveways and lawns.
• An improved safety system securing the container to the truck. The “ROBO UNIT” locks to the back of the truck giving the container enhanced support and stability.
• Advanced technology that uses a motor and hydraulics.

“The ‘ROBO-UNIT’ better serves customers and everyone loves watching it in action,” adds Paul Cardosi, Owner of UNITS Portable Storage in Phoenix. “When that sky blue robot comes out, there is really a wow factor that draws a crowd on many residential streets. There really is nothing out there like it.”
“We wanted to partner with this groundbreaking TV series, so we could truly help people in need’,” says John Steeves, chief operating officer of UNITS Mobile Storage. “Through a partnership with the show, we are now able to donate our products and services to help in locations where we have a UNITS franchise within 100 miles. We are excited about working with the Hoarders production team throughout the filming of the upcoming third season.”

Hoarders are often encouraged to seek different types of therapy, or medication in some extreme cases. Experienced mobile storage experts and organizational gurus are often called in to help hoarders sort through the items they can’t part with, teaching them how to identify and separate the “must haves” from the junk. Mobile storage units are a helpful part of the therapy process, offering a transition step that allows hoarders to store what they don’t need without permanently throwing anything out before they are ready.

“There’s a sort of comfort in knowing your possessions are safely stored away and you can retrieve them at any time,” says Steeves.

UNITS Mobile Storage of Columbus, Ohio, was the first location to make a donation to the show. UNITS of Columbus delivered a mobile storage container to hold important equipment and materials during the filming of an episode shot in Cleveland during December of 2009. The episode, titled “Dennis and Nadene/Erin and Melinda,” was the 19th of the series and originally aired on Monday, February 15, 2010.

Since August 2009, Hoarders has provided a window into the lives of people whose inability to part with their belongings pushes them to the verge of personal crisis. The series captures the drama as a variety of experts work to put each hoarder on the road to recovery. The season two premiere of the show garnered 3.2 million viewers age 18-49 and 1.9 million adults age 25-54, the best ever season opener for any original A&E series at the time for those key age groups.

Company Sees Upturn in Business As a Nation Downsizes

One company sees big results as consumers and businesses stay “small”

Holly Springs, NC -- (SBWIRE) -- 02/19/2010 -- The weak economy has helped one company grow stronger as businesses and individuals search for creative ways to save money using mobile storage. UNITS Mobile Storage, a technologically advanced mobile storage company with 40 franchises nationwide, reports rapidly growing sales in certain cities as more consumers and businesses tighten their wallets as they look for extra space.

“We have seen sales grow in many of our markets because consumers and business owners don’t want to take the risk of moving to a bigger home or purchasing additional office space right now. They are looking for the most convenient mobile storage solution,” says John Steeves, COO of UNITS Mobile Storage. “The struggling economy is forcing people to get creative and turn to our state of the art mobile storage units as a cost effective solution for their growing storage needs.”

WHY SMALLER KEEPS THEM SANER*:
• Andrea Paulinelli, owner of EcoTransitions in Atlanta, needed a way to store and display her dual-flush, eco-friendly toilets without having to buy office space to create a traditional showroom. She decided the most cost effective route would be to rent two storage containers: one to use as her model display for builders and individual homeowners, and the other to store her inventory. “UNITS Mobile Storage offered me a cost effective option that has allowed my business to flourish,” said Paulinelli. “Additionally, the UNITS containers have a translucent roof and state of the art security.”

• Rob Carpenter, president of ServPro in Sacramento, CA, rents multiple containers each month to alleviate storage issues with his restoration company. Instead of renting a warehouse, Carpenter uses the containers to pack away residential or business furniture and property so his team can go in and properly restore fire or water damage inside the structure. Many times the containers will be stored on site instead of in the UNITS warehouse while ServPro handles the restoration for an even more convenient solution.

• Bryan Lewis, owner of Valley Wide Restoration in Phoenix, AZ, chose to use UNITS instead of multiple on and off-site metal containers or large storage facilities. Having the UNITS containers on-site make it much cheaper for him to store personal property and reduce the overall cost and time of a project. This allows him to take on more work and generate additional revenue. “The quality of a UNITS container far exceeds not only their direct competition but other potential storage options,” said Lewis. “We have been able to save a considerable amount of money thanks to their well-designed and far superior product.”

Sam McKillip, owner of UNITS Mobile Storage in Sacramento, says it’s these types of creative storage solutions that have helped his business grow at a rate of 200 percent since it opened in December of 2008. “We’re growing because we provide consumers and businesses with a temporary storage solution that doesn’t require them to go out on a limb and invest a ton of money in more space. Renting a container for your personal or business situation is a solution that can provide stability in these economic times.”
National Recognition:
As they successfully address the needs of consumers and businesses across America, UNITS Mobile Storage has been receiving national attention as a storage solution and as a business opportunity. In the last six months alone, the company has been featured in USA Today, CNNMoney.com, Inc. Magazine, The Milwaukee Business Journal, The Orange County Register and ABC, FOX and CBS affiliates throughout the U.S. UNITS has also been recognized as a thought leader in the industry, helping people with a variety of issues including hoarding or cluttering problems. The hit A&E show Hoarders, reaching 3.2 million viewers, partnered with UNITS to provide mobile storage units free of charge to help hoarders in their personal recovery.

As more people leave corporate America for the dream of owning their own successful business, UNITS is gearing up for more growth. In 2010, the company plans to add 13 – 15 new territories across the U.S.

“We are seeing numbers that would equate to a revenue mark around $1 million sometime between years five and six for individual franchises,” adds Steeves. “People looking to leave corporate America see this as a golden opportunity.”

Local Mobile Storage Company Aids Atlanta Green Project

--UNITS Mobile Storage Houses Reusable Building Materials
to Benefit The Atlanta Fuller Center for Housing--

Holly Springs, NC -- (SBWIRE) -- 02/01/2010 -- UNITS Mobile Storage of Atlanta is donating several portable storage containers to The Hoots Group, a leading green builder in the Southeast, for the 2010 Southern Building Show Earthcraft House certified project, Midtown Green House. The Hoots Group is using the containers to securely store building materials and equipment during construction of the green home.

Prior to the demolition of the older home on the property, Mark Galey, founder and president of Magnet Construction, removed several windows, doors and cabinets from the home to donate to the Atlanta Fuller Center for Housing, a volunteer, non-profit housing ministry focused on home repairs for the needy.

UNITS Mobile Storage has donated the storage space needed for these reusable materials, while the Fuller Center locates a warehouse or retail outlet to store and sell these items to the public.

“The primary benefits of using mobile storage for contractor jobs are fewer materials go to the landfill since they can be reused and recycled into new projects, and the donors receive tax credits by recycling, which is still a net positive even when adding in the nominal cost of portable storage,” said Stefanie Miller, owner of UNITS Mobile Storage of Atlanta. “It’s exciting to have this opportunity to work with The Hoots Group on their green project and to help Mark Galey with his efforts at the Fuller Center.”

The Hoots Group will be showcasing its new Earthcraft House certified home through its various stages of construction, all of which is being documented on http://midtowngreen.net.

New Solution Helps Hoarders and Their Families

Local company helps combat growing mental illness

Holly Springs, NC -- (SBWIRE) -- 01/29/2010 -- You can’t help but stumble over the hallmarks of a hoarder. Stacks of things throughout the house. Junk everywhere. The floors completely covered. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimates that in 2009 the U.S. had more than two million hoarders. The prime time hit TV show “Hoarders” spotlights the problem, showing hoarders’ inability to part with personal belongings is so out of control that they are on the verge of a personal crisis. National awareness has caused more and more hiding hoarders to come out of their messy homes and search for help. In fact, the show uses mobile storage units as one of their techniques to help hoarders overcome their problem. So if you are a hoarder or are struggling to live with one, what on earth do you do to combat this disease?

GETTING HELP:

“The first step is to clear out things you haven’t used in more than a few months to see if you really need them inside your home,” says John Steeves, COO of UNITS Mobile Storage. “One way to store these items without throwing them away is to rent a mobile storage unit and keep the portable unit in your driveway or at the mobile storage companies’ warehouse which are secure and climate controlled. This offers a sense of security, letting you know your items are safe.”

Hoarding, also called compulsive hoarding and compulsive hoarding syndrome, can be a symptom of obsessive-compulsive disorder, but researchers are working to better understand hoarding as a distinct mental health problem. The disease can take a huge toll on not only the person but the entire family. Sufferers often turn to different forms of therapy and in some cases medication. One form of therapy is enlisting the help of experienced mobile storage experts or organizational gurus as an extra line of defense.

“Once you realize it’s possible to live without these items, you increase your chances of combating your hoarding or clutter problem,” added Steeves.

CONSIDER THESE STORIES :
Ersa King,55 , Atlanta, GA
• While her house was under repair after a pipe burst, she began to stack everything up, unable to part with her belongings. It’s a severe mental problem as anxiety kicks in whenever she thinks about throwing things away. Now she has a storage building that has grown to 30X40 packed full, an outdoor shed completely loaded, an entire basement and double garage full, and the inside of the house packed to the ceiling. She has to turn sideways to walk down hall. UNITS is now working with Ersa to get her items out of the house and into a mobile storage unit at their warehouse. “My children say that everything came in one bag or box at a time, so it should be able to go out the same way,” says Ersa. “I just get so overwhelmed and anxious I never end up getting rid of anything. This is a good start.”

Joe Ernest, 59, of San Antonio, TX
• Over the past 20 years, Joe has purchased so much exercise equipment that his house looked more like a gym than a home. He’s collected a weight bench, free weights, three stationary bikes, two treadmills, and two other massive exercise devices he doesn’t even know how to use. Joe hasn’t worked out in years but keeps adding to his collection. His home became a cluttered, unsafe mess and he couldn’t let go of his purchases. He was finally convinced to rent a mobile storage unit and now stores everything. “ I can’t part with this stuff for good, “says John. “ My equipment is close but it’s not gone forever so I know it’s there if I ever need it. It feels good to know I can get to it if needed.”

THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A HOARDER AND A CLUTTERER
Both terms are used to define a person who accumulates things and is unable to get rid of them to the point where it becomes a problem. However, there are major differences in the severity of the two.

Hoarder:
• An actual psychiatric condition.
• A person who obsesses over their personal items and belongings and will most likely not find a solution to this problem without professional help.
• They cannot make rational decisions about what to keep and what to get rid of.
• Their personal items will cause serious distress and discomfort and will limit their ability to make good use of the inside of a home, garage, attic or storage space.
• Taking out the trash is often a crisis and they will collect and keep almost everything.

Clutterer:
• Cluttering affects millions of people.
• Emotional attachments to things are one of the major driving factors to keep unnecessary items.
• A person who has emotional attachments to things but without much struggle would be able to make the changes themselves if motivated enough.
• This will never get to an extreme point as to debilitate the person’s freedom and comfort.
• Taking out the trash and throwing things away is not a chore if given motivation.

TELL THIS STORY WITH A LOCAL FAMILY RIGHT IN YOUR CITY
• A local family or individual who has hoarding or clutter problems and found a solution with a mobile storage unit.
• A local organizational expert who can talk about how de-cluttering and organizing can make for a happier, healthier home.

UNITS Mobile Storage of Atlanta Announces Winter Storage Stimulus Offer

Rent a UNIT Now Through February 28 Starting at Just $99 Per Month

Atlanta, GA -- (SBWIRE) -- 12/02/2009 -- The holiday season is fast approaching and good cheer is in the air. For its part, UNITS Mobile Storage is offering customers an attractive ‘Storage Stimulus’ special, effective now through February 28, 2010. UNITS Mobile Storage customers who request ‘Storage Stimulus’ can rent a 12’ mobile storage container for $99/month onsite or $109/month for warehouse storage, or a 16’ portable storage pod for $119/month onsite or $129/month for warehouse storage.

“We understand the additional financial constraints people are confronted with this time of year, and felt our special ‘Storage Stimulus’ rates would lend a helping hand,” Stefanie Miller, owner of UNITS Mobile Storage of Atlanta. “What sets us apart from our competition is our top-notch customer service and a superior quality product, and now we’ve coupled that with exceptionally competitive rates.”

UNITS Mobile Storage offers innovative storage pods made of galvanized steel and reinforced fiberglass, with an integrated roof system (vs. roof cap), which enable us to provide the most water tight, structurally secure containers in the industry.

UNITS are available in two sizes (8’ x 8’ x 12’ or 8’ x 8’ x 16’) and can be stored at the customer’s home or in the UNITS Mobile Storage temperature-controlled warehouse. The warehouse offers both heat and air conditioning, so valuables such as antiques, photographs and candles remain safe from potentially harmful outdoor temperatures. UNITS also provides local curb-to-curb services as well as state-to-state moves.

All storage pods are specifically designed to be water, mold, and UV resistant. The inside of each UNIT offers an E-Racking system, which allows for the most convenient and reliable way to secure valuables. This is a critical advantage, especially during the transit of goods, given Atlanta’s rolling topography.

“Winter, especially during the extended holiday break, is a great time to de-clutter or renovate a home, and portable storage offers the perfect solution,” added Miller. “Customers can store their belongings onsite with convenient, ground level access, or they can send the storage pod to the UNITS warehouse to instantly free up critical space at home.”

For further information or to book a reservation with UNITS Mobile Storage of Atlanta, please call 678-838-6556, or visit http://www.unitsstorage.com. UNITS also offers a wide variety of packing supplies from boxes, tape and bubble wrap to moving pads, cambuckle straps and blankets. Any of these supplies can be delivered with a UNITS rental, plus UNITS will buy back any unused items at full price.

UNITS is the preferred mobile storage provider for many construction, remodeling and emergency restoration companies across Atlanta. Costco saw UNITS at an industry show and approached the franchise to be their featured Business of the Month at several Atlanta Costco stores. Likewise, because of its quality product, UNITS is the only mobile storage company that Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage recommends to its 1,300 agents.

UNITS Mobile Storage Celebrates Holidays By Giving Back To Local Community

Container Donations Provide Much Needed Storage For Toy and Food Drives

Orange County, CA -- (SBWIRE) -- 11/30/2009 -- Across the nation, schools and charities have experienced a lag in funding due to the recession. Businesses and families have had to scale down charitable donations and educational funding has been slashed by the government. UNITS Mobile Storage of Orange County has stepped in to help in an unconventional way- through the gift of storage. The mobile storage franchise has donated several of its mobile storage containers to charities and schools throughout Orange County.

The franchise, headquartered in Lake Forest, provides all-in-one storage, and moving solutions through its use of the signature UNITS Mobile Storage containers. The units are breathable, secure storage containers that are easy to use.

The Plaza Vista School, in Irvine, was given a container to store food donations for their food drive. UNITS picked up the container from Plaza Vista and delivered it to Families Forward in Irvine, a program designed to provide food to low-income families and the homeless in southern Orange County. After witnessing the positive impact Families Forward has had on the community, UNITS donated two additional containers for the holiday season.

“Because of the generosity of local businesses and the community, Familes Forward needs extra storage space for donated food during the holidays” said Judy Leonard, owner UNITS Mobile Storage of Orange County. “ It’s great to see the community be so giving in such hard times, so I felt the least we could do was insure they had a place to store the donations. We’re honored to be part of such an important effort.”

Saddleback Church, located in Lake Forest, was also given two storage UNITS for its Angel Tree Ministries Christmas charity. The unit will store toys donated by local residents and congregation members. In turn, the toys will be given to children who have parents in prison. Saddleback will use an additional UNIT to store a variety of donated food intended for local as well as international destinations to help hungry people the world over.

Instead of traditional donations, UNITS has given a gift that keeps on giving throughout the holidays. The storage containers mean more to philanthropic organizations than a simple monetary donation because they provide a crucial service – a storage facility to gather and distribute food and toys to the citizens in need.

UNITS Ensures Success of Holiday Season for Local Women’s Shelter

Owner’s donation to Shepherd’s Gate Shelter helps in more ways than one

East Bay, CA -- (SBWIRE) -- 11/11/2009 -- For the past 25 years, the Shepherd’s Gate Shelter has been providing aid and protection to homeless and battered women and children. Completely funded by donations and run through the help of volunteers, the shelter is an amazing example of the kind hearts that live in the East Bay area. However, with somewhat limited resources, the shelter needs even more support as the holiday season rolls around. Donna Topp, owner of the East Bay UNITS Mobile Storage, helped to make a huge difference by offering to provide assistance crucial to maintaining the safe haven these women and children need.

Knowing that the shelter would need a place to store clothes and toys for the Christmas season before distributing them, Donna planned to donate a UNIT for the month of December. Just recently, Keelie Chamberland from the shelter called and asked to use the UNIT a month and a half earlier to store supplies used to rebuild the fence around the property. Of course, Topp agreed.

“Keelie told me that the shelter had finally gotten the supplies and manpower to rebuild the dilapidated fence, but they didn’t have a place to store everything,” says Topp. “Without the UNIT, the supplies would have been covered with a tarp without any security. After all that they do for these families, the least I could do was ensure that the wood for the project wouldn’t get stolen or damaged.”

A storage unit that is easily moved, packed, and relocated is just what the shelter needed. The fencing project will begin the first week of December and new/unused gifts can be donated between 9:30 and 4:30 from December 1st -22nd at 1660 Portola Avenue in Livermore. For more information call the Shepherd’s Gate Shelter at (925) 423-4283.

Topp explains, “After all that Shepherd’s Gate does for these families, the least we could do was make the volunteers’ lives a little easier. So many people come together to make sure that the Shelter succeeds: companies, families, Boy Scout troops and more. We’re just glad to be a part of it.”

We’ll set up an interview for you to talk with a UNITS representative and a Shepherd’s Gate volunteer about the shelter’s fantastic work, and the rewards of community participation and charity during the holiday season.
